U.S. ARMY GARRISON, YONGSAN -- U.S. Marine Corps Forces Korea recognized Sgt. Norma Azgomez, MARFORK G1 non-commissioned officer in charge, and Lance Cpl. Marcus A. Whited, MARFORK G6 help-desk clerk, for their outstanding contributions to the command within the past quarter by selecting them as Marine and non-commissioned officer of the quarter for first quarter 2018.
These boards are conducted quarterly by the MARFORK Sergeant Major and a panel of the command’s senior staff non-commissioned officers who select a winner. The board members look at the Marine’s contribution to the command from the previous 90 days as well as if the Marine encompasses the “whole Marine concept”, meaning the Marine is well rounded in all aspects of service to include professional military education, off duty education, physical fitness, and rifle scores.
“I take a lot of pride in the fact that I’ve worked hard enough to be recognized with the selection of NCO of the Quarter,” said Azgomez, a native of Los Angeles, California.
“Winning the Marine of the Quarter board made me proud of what I have accomplished while at Marine Forces Korea,” said Whited, a native of Parkersburg, West Virginia. “It was a goal of mine, and just another step in the right direction for my future in the Marine Corps.”
Information about the Marine and NCO of the Quarter boards can be found in MARFORK order 1650.11. The Marines’ section should submit nominations for these boards in standard naval letter format. These packages will include a data sheet, Marine Corps Total Force System screens, pages 3, 11, 12, and 13 from the Marines’ service record book, and a qualitative and quantitative narrative letter of recommendation.
These boards are scheduled to be conducted at the end of the months of March, June, September, and December. The MARFORK Marine and NCO of the Quarter will receive a Certificate of Commendation and get their name and photo posted on the command deck for all to see. All Marines of ranks private through sergeant are eligible for submission as long as they meet the service’s standards in grade.
